BUDWEISER MICHIAN MAJORS BOWLING ASSOCIATION
JUSZCZYK FOILS NIDIFFER QUEST FOR 4TH TITLE
The Budweiser Michigan Majors Bowling Association tournament had all the drama and
intensity you could ask in the finals at Bay Lanes in Bay City.
Craig Nidiffer was going for a record three tournament wins in a row also try to tie the
record of four titles in one year set in 1985 by Bob Stempien.
Nidiffer let everyone know he was still on his hot streak by pacing the 64 entrants with a
six game 1327 score. Craig continued on in the semi-finals to gain the #1 seed in the
stepladder finals.
George Juszczyk, a friend and team mate in the Detroit All Star Traveling Classic, stood
in his way. All friendship was put aside.
It was only fitting that the match went down to the final two frames. Juszczyk had a bad
break in his 8th frame. A cell phone went off as he was about to release the ball causing
him to pull up leaving the 3-6-8 pins which he missed giving Nidiffer a 3 pin lead.
Nidiffer now had a chance to win the game with strikes in his 9 –10 frames. He rolled two
strikes then made his only bad shot of the game. A wide open 6 pin split for a 213 game.
Juszczyk rolled a clutch strike, 9 spare for a 215 game.
Val Sherlock defeated Ray Eddy 205-203 in the opening match of the stepladder.
Sherlock dispatched Mason Brantley 223-215. The semi-final match was all Juszczyk with
an easy 242-162 win over Sherlock.
Nidiffer said, “it was a great match, I gave it all I had. I came up short on that one pitch
and George took advantage.”
Juszczyk said, “I finally got that first title. It was a real thrill especially winning against
Craig. The guys were starting to call Craig the match game king". He won the Match Game
Champions and hadn’t lost a match in the stepladder this year. "I now can bowl in the
Tournament of Champions in December,” continued Juszczyk.
The next tournament is the Championship on November 19 at Cherry Hill Lanes in
Dearborn Heights.
