HOFMEISTER WINS # 17 AT PLAZA LANES
Dale Hofmeister has to be the one to beat in any Budweiser Michigan Majors
tournament. Hofmeister the all time leader in titles won adding another notch #17 at
Plaza Lanes in Plymouth.
It was a high scoring affair at Plaza Lanes. Craig Nidiffer fresh off winning the Match
Game Championship last month paced the 74 entrants with a six game 1544 scores.
There were five 300 games by Terry Haines, George Juszczyk, Jeff Roche, Randy
Warnken and Jeff Grego in the qualifying rounds.
Jeff Grego started with a spare then strung 10 strikes in a row for a 289-236 win over
Jeff Hicks in the opening match of the stepladder finals. Grego defeated Aaron Lorincz
248-195 to meet Hofmeister in the semi-final match.
Hofmeister appeared to have the match all sewed up going into his 10th frame. All he
needed was a spare to lock up the match. Dale left a 7 pin which he missed leaving the
door open for Grego. Jeff needed 2 strikes plus 8 pins for the win. He left a solid 9 pin
on his first toss. Hofmeister won 246-227.
Hofmeister started with 2 strikes, a split, then six strikes in a row for a 233-211 win over
Craig Nidiffer. Again Hofmeister missed a 7 pin in his 10th frame. This time it didn’t
matter.
Hofmeister said, “ I was a lucky this time. I should not have been in the championship
match. Jeff left some solid taps and I blew that 7 pin. I’m glad I didn’t need to make the 7
pin against Craig as I missed it again.”
