Jeff Edwards, winner; Kathy King, Manager Mayflower Lanes
Lonnie Jones, runnerup

JEFF EDWARDS WINS FIRST AT MAYFLOWER LANES

Jeff Edwards found something that few could do at Mayflower Lanes in Redford. The ability
to string strikes for his first title in the Michigan Majors Bowling Association. Spare making was
at a premium.
Pete Brown was the leading qualifier with a six game 1282 score. Brown just hung on to
make the final spot of the stepladder final.
Brown won the opening match by closing with four strikes in a 200-184 win over Brian O’
Dell.  Edwards won the next match by stringing six strikes for a 244-177 win over Brown.
Edwards continue with the strike barrage against Doug Mazurco.  Edwards started with four
strikes, spare, three strikes for a 242-182 win.
The championship match was closer as Lonnie Jones started with three strikes but had only
one more strike after the 3rd frame. Edwards countered with two strikes in his 3-4 frames.
Edwards closed with three strikes in his 8-9-10 frames for a 225-187 win and his first title.
“I don’t know if I will ever win a title. I want one so bad,” said a dejected Jones. This was the
18th time in the finals and the second time as runner-up.
Edwards said, “this was a tough course and just wanted to make all my spares. I switched
balls and line in the 5th game of the qualifying. Everything fell into place and I started to carry
strikes. It’s a great thrill to win that first title.”
